Names: Elias Mabuza
HAPG Patient
I am Elias Mabuza. I am staying with my mother in BelaBela and I am 58 years old. My reason to come to the Centre is because I was sick and I was tested HIV positive in 1998. When I joined the centre I felt lonely and I wanted to kill myself. I first talked to the Sister at the Clinic who counselled me. She was so good to me and she supported me. I have changed a lot and I am very happy here, it is like home for me. I am having a lot of friends at the Centre and in the community.

I started my ARV treatment in 2002, 1 May. I am feeling good and happy to have taken them. They are doing me good and I am not going to stop them.

I would like to tell people that I was feeling very shy about my status but now I am no longer.

I would like the community of BelaBela and the world to follow my steps when they are feeling lonely with HIV/Aids.

Names: Rachel Zonzi
HAPG Patient

I am Rachel Zonzi, I am 33 years old. I am living in BelaBela and I joined at the Centre because I am HIV positive. When I started coming here I was sick. I came here to test and to join the support group. I now feel much better. I first told my aunt and her children that I was infected with HIV. They accepted me and gave me support. I consulted the doctor at the Centre and he prescribed me ARV’s. Since I started drinking ARV’s I feel much better and I am no longer ill. My CD4 was 114 when I started with the treatment and has now risen to 142. I would like my CD4 to go over 1000….

I would everybody like to test and to know their HIV status so that they can get treatment when necessary. I am very happy in HAPG because they are teaching me a lot and I am living happily. Now, I am a care giver in the community and want to help others because I also got help to get better.
